How can I understand him? Cultural Issues! Any anthropologist please help!?

I am a mexican-american (consider my heritage when answering!) and I have been in an unstable relationship with a guy from Bombay here in the U.S. Long story short I love him he loves me but can't be together because of our career differences and many cultural misunderstandings. I wish he would reconsider after all we've struggled and have gone a long way. He is so into his career that he puts me aside. Why is that? Is this part of Indian culture, or is it just him? Do I give up? Is it a culture thing to put career first then a relationship? How does it work?!!! HELP ME PLZ..
