Isn't Stevie Ray Vaughan overrated?

I've heard a lot of his work and I don't get it. I like it, it's enjoyable frat-boy rabble-rousing stuff, but the guy is nothing like as much of a genius as Albert Collins or Otis Rush at their best, and certainly not fit to play Hendrix songs. He's like the ultimate bar-band guitarist, but nothing more. Nothing I have ever heard of his music has convinced me that he is a really great blues player who can do anything more than be basically exciting - which is not all that difficult, and certainly not worth all the hoopla surrounding his reputation.
